We are very sorry to announce that Sir Bill Jeffrey has retired as Chair of the Police Foundation after 13 years in the role. Before taking up the chairmanship, Sir Bill had a distinguished career as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence from 2005 to 2010 and he had also been Permanent Secretary at the Cabinet Office, coordinating Security and Intelligence, which included security during the 2005 terrorist attacks in London.
Sir Bill has been a steadfast supporter of the Police Foundation ever since he took his chairmanship in 2011 and he leaves the organisation with its influence and impact the highest it has ever been.
We hope you will join us in wishing Sir Bill the very best for the future and welcoming Dame Sara Thornton QPM as incoming Chair. Dame Sara Thornton was the UK’s Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner and previously the first Chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council. She is currently Rights Lab Professor of Practice in modern slavery policy at Nottingham University.
